Ft. a healthy dose of me reminiscing on Lookbook.nu

Do y’all remember Lookbook.nu? The hours of my middle and high school life spent scrolling and posting to that website somehow massively eclipse those spent on all of the social platforms I frequent today...I can only hope those photos have been scrubbed from the internet—picture me in the carpeted hallway of my suburban home, overhead lights on full blast, wearing an American Apparel flare dress with a multi-colored statement necklace—you know the one. Sometimes I miss the simplicity of that time: posting with reckless abandon and scrolling for hours on a website intended for nothing other than admiring strangers’ outfits and talking about our personal style. Anyway, every time I take photos of my outfits, I can’t help but envision all of this, followed by the thought that I might one day wince when thinking of the outfits I’m wearing now. Hopefully not, though. Unlike a younger version of myself, I try to reach for timeless silhouettes, vintage pieces that have already run through the trend cycle a time or two, and colors I’ll gravitate towards for years to come. :-)

No sweater will ever compare to the Blake Pullover from James Street: mine is from a few years ago, and thankfully, they reintroduced it into their current collection with a contrast detail around the neck.

I picked these Mary Janes up during a trip to New York in early April when I was dying in the [one pair of] boots I’d brought. I love Camper’s shoes for optimum comfort while still looking like shoes I’d normally wear, vs. turning to a sneaker, which I’d rather not do 9 times out of 10.

This top is an age-old vintage score from eBay that I finally had tailored, and the jeans seem to be from several seasons ago by Rodebjer via Gift of Garb, one of my favorite curated consignment shops here in LA! They’re a pretty standard blue jean, but I linked a similar pair (and blouse) above.

I’m very much loving this set from Spence for tennis. And as much as I love my boat tote, you might notice that I wish I’d gotten the longer straps: learn from my mistake and opt for the ones that let you sling the bag over your shoulder like a normal person. :-)

I fell for this dress from Paloma Wool when I tried it on in their store in New York—had to order it once I got back home. It’s a super stretchy, lightweight material that I imagine I’ll get tons of wear out of year-round. Here I’ve paired it with the best tights from Swedish Stockings, which I always go for in 1-2 sizes up. Code SAM25 gets you a discount!

I got this cardigan at a sweet event for Oak Essentials, where they had custom embroidery: I got a little S on mine. The shoes I’m wearing are some ecru Paloma Wool flats I got for my wedding about 6 years back, and I have these jeans in multiple colors and fits: they’re the perfect length if you also happen to be 5”8, and if not, you can get them tailored for free.

I wear some variation of this every week: the amazing vintage suede jacket my husband found, an oversized button-down, and some wide-leg jeans. I found the top at a thrift store, but I love this one if you’re looking for something new!

This dress was exactly what I was looking for in a summer sundress: bright and visually interesting, what with the smocked waist. The trench/barn jacket was a vintage find, but I linked a few similar options above!

Thanks for reading! More soon. xo
